Research Fund
A research fund is available for research into topical issues in South Island dairying.  SIDE has provided financial support for numerous projects and encourages applications from students or scientists.

Funded Projects
SIDE is currently providing seed funding for the following projects:

• Sustainable dairy support land.  This includes survey work to identify best practice, as well as experimental work to identify crop sequences to increase productivity in a sustainable way. 
   
  
• Analysis of farm accounts.  This project is designed to see if there are easier surrogates for the “total factor productivity” calculation – an important industry goal, but one which is difficult to calculate for individual farms.
   
  
• Lameness.  SIDE has supported Jim Gibbs’ work on lameness in the South Island.  A small grant from SIDE has led to substantial investment by both the Sustainable Farming Fund and Dairy InSight.  A large project looking at causes of lameness is now underway involving farms right across the South Island.
